The Stare

Last week I went grocery shopping and as we were checking out there was an adorable 3-4 year old girl sitting in the grocery cart. She was swinging her legs and singing out loud. I pushed our cart up next to theirs as they were about to leave and Keilani started staring and staring at the little girl. Of course she was just mesmerized by another child (as most children are) but the more she stared the quieter the little girl became. Eventually she stopped singing altogether and just sat there silently. I could tell she had become kind of uncomfortable because Keilani was just looking at her so I tried to get Keilani to look away at something else, but was unsuccessful. Keilani kept staring until they were loaded up and the mom pushed the little girl away. As they were walking away I heard the little girl (almost in tears at this point) say to her mother, “Mom…I think that baby was mad at me!!!” Of course I just started laughing. I knew Keilani had a pretty intense stare, but I didn’t know it had the powers to suck out happiness out of other children. Mitch said it is her “x-men power”. I guess I need to be a little more cautious of when she locks those eyes on others….

While she does have an intense stare (which is all I seem to be able to get on camera lately), she does have a happier side too. I promise.
