Mitch has wanted to fly kites for the longest time and he surprised me on Saturday by bringing 2 kites home from the store. It was the perfect day as it was sunny, but quite windy. We took Spiderman and Dora to a nearby park and the adventures began. We spread far apart so our kites wouldn't get tangled with each other. This was Mitch's kite (noticed the emphasis on "was"):

When I reached him I was shocked at how high he had let his kite go. His kite would fall to the ground a few times and all of a sudden revive itself and catapult into the air. I kept joking that his kite was possessed because it really happened 3 or 4 times! He finally let it go so high that the string was almost at its end. I told him that it was going to take him forever to reel it in so he might as well just let it go (kidding of course). So he starts to wind up the string and asks me to take a turn because it was taking him forever. But then a huge gust of wind came and ripped the string holder (?) out of his hands. Away went spiderman. Mitch tried to run after the end, but I think it was about 1/2 of a mile away within 10 seconds. I took a picture when it was a little dot in the sky. Can you see it?

I started flying mine and slowly let out the string...not too far though because the string took forever to reel back in whenever the kite fell. After about 5 minutes of standing there I decided my arms were tired (I think I was more lazy than tired), so I reeled my kite in and went to watch Mitch. As the pictures suggest...he was pretty into it.

We sat there laughing and watched the wind carry it farther and farther away until it was so small we couldn't see it anymore. We got in the car and started driving home and as we pulled up to our house I thought I saw spiderman passing by...no...a pigeon?....NO SPIDERMAN! I got all excited and Mitch said we should drive after it and catch it. We started driving the direction it went but we had lost it again. He pulled over and I got out of the car to see if I could see it anywhere, but with no luck. I turned around to tell Mitch the bad news and then saw Spiderman caught in a power line right in front of me.

I was all excited and we just started laughing hysterically. For some reason this was so entertaining to us. We didn't get it down (for obvious safety issues), but we think it will eventually break off and fly somewhere else...as it has a mind of its own apparently. All in all it was quite the day. We will save Dora for another fun adventure.
