First, buy these flat clear stones. I buy them at Robert's Craft store but I know you can get them at probably any craft store and I think Target and Walmart. They are usually in the wedding section. Obviously it doesn't need to be this brand, but this bag of 20 was less then $2.

Take a clear gemstone and place it on the paper/design you wish to use. Trace it and cut it out.

Using the Glossy Accents glue (also available at craft stores), place a spiral of glue on the paper. Be careful not to use too much...or the glue will ooze out of the sides. Press the gemstone firmly onto the paper and slide it around a little to push out any air bubbles.

Let the gemstone and dry to the paper for a few minutes. Next flip the gemstone over and apply a drop of hot glue. Take a magnet and press it firmly into the hot glue and let it dry.

I also bought this pack of magnets at Roberts...but any type of magnet will do. Just make sure it is strong enough to hold the weight of the gemstone.

...And you are done! For the paper you use: it is best if it is not too thick or too thin. You can also make magnets using pictures (kids school pictures, etc.) If you do decide to do pictures though, print them out with a color printer on regular paper. If you use glossy photo paper, the glue smears up the picture and it doesn't really work.
When I made the magnet favors for the baby shower, I just found small clear bags (from Xpedx) and then placed a piece of designed paper to cover the top. I am sure you can get creative and do different things. Enjoy!
