Pillow Talk and the Photographic Mind

I always tease Mitch because he says that he was a genius until the fifth grade. I think he has retained a part of that “genius” in his brain however because Mitch has this amazing talent to learn and retain useless information. I share two incidents from last night:

1) We are watching our cute nieces and nephews this week. We decide to watch the movie Rush Hour and the boys get all excited. Before starting the movie, Mitch begins to quote several lines, word-for-word from the movie. Tyler is all amazed and thinks that Mitch has just recently watched the movie, but in my mind I know that the last time Mitch saw the movie was probably in the movie theater. They were all impressed, but I think I am used to it. Yes…he can even quote Anne of Green Gables!

2) Then as we are lying in bed and neither of us is tired enough yet, I suggest we have pillow talk. Mitch says “Okay, ask me a question.” My mind starts racing with all sorts of profound questions I can ask in that moment, but I decide to start off slow….something he would want to talk about….yes, BYU Football. My family has tickets and we usually get to go to a game or two every season. I throw out the question “If you could choose any two BYU football games to go to this season, which ones would they be?” I initially thought this might be a difficult question as the football season is 7 months away and how would he know BYU’s home game schedule. Then I remembered this “genius” particle floating in his brain and proceeded with the question. Of course Mitch rattles off with all of the scheduled conference and non-conference home games, potential team rankings, the difficult teams, the good players, and the games he would go to. We laughed after about ten minutes when he stopped and said “Does that answer your question?…Sorry I have problems.”

I guess I am sharing this with everyone, because I actually love this about Mitch. It makes our days exciting and I feel he is a good resource when I need to know what that guy from Reading Rainbow and Star Trek is up to now. (True story….I will save it for another day). AND I think that this useless information will someday be the money maker. Okay, maybe not.

Hey Kristen-
It's Melissa from waterford- I saw your website on facebook- don't you love blogs? We three miller girls all have one since we are all living across the country- it is a quick and easy way to stay in touch. I love this post- and your genius husband. He definitely is a genius because he is a BYU cougar fan. My husband is too and his whole family are die-hards about the cougs. Anyway just thought I would say hello!
